Real Simple Magazine Is Awesome
I’m strongly considering a long-term subscription (I’ve bought 2 of them thus far and it’s WAY cheaper to suck it up and subscribe); Real Simple- it’s an amazing magazine and it’s got a great site too!
I’ve been tempted to buy everything that exists, so instead I’ll write a blog about how awesome this magazine is and some of the cool online tips/articles I’ve been reading.
Even though Mother’s Day is over, consider interviewing your father for Father’s Day using these 10 questions. Touching article/idea.
66 All-Natural Cleaning Solutions- Imagine what you never knew was lying around your house that you can use as an inexpensive cleaning aid. First thing is lemons, and I see Dr. Bronner’s up-and-coming in the list. I could read this all night, and still not clean a thing
Strawberries can be used for many things, including whitening your teeth (I recently was reading that)- here’s a Summer Fruit Pie recipe they have.
I’m reading about organization and their system for managing your mail which seems effective.
Their May 2009 checklist has a few of the aforementioned things, and I’m sure they have an online checklist each month to help you organize your life. I know I need something like this. And yes, I need to throw out some mascara- especially because I don’t wear makeup that often, I know that I have some 2 or 3 year old stuff out there.
There is everything on this site to help you prep your life and spruce it up and get you all sussed out. I don’t know what I just said, but this site / magazine really inspires me. They even have a 6 Eco-Friendly School Supplies list, which again leads me to want to buy everything I don’t need. But. Alas. I know that I can get sucked into the buying/needing/wanting mentality and go crazy. I was starting to accrue a 5 / 10 book set order on a store online when I came across one of their books called something like “The Shopping Gene: It’s not just in your imagination” or something of this sort.
Anyway, I think that Real Simple is a great magazine, and browsing it online is awesome. I probably will get a subscription because I don’t have one and I am always tempted to buy them. But, just as with any magazine, there’s still a lot of advertising, and it makes me want to buy stuff, and it’s more clutter, and the magazine itself is not that great for the environment. But. I love it. And I will continue to debate this with myself as I move into the Summer where I have time and ambition to perfect my life

Mr. Lif @ Johnny Brenda’s 05/18/09+ surprisingly awesome other acts
Loved it. So much of it was sooo awesome. Worth the pithy 3 hours of sleep I got before getting up at 6:15 the next morning. all the peepz were cool, energetic, down-to-earth, rockin’ the right messages, and some really cool new sounds. there was only one band i won’t mention i wasn’t that into. but even they had their musically talented moments.
quite a show. lots of photos, comments, and vids to put up. for now, here we are:
Mr. Lif & Amandoo
all sorts of blogmentary ishts later. probably. most likely yeah! this weekend

It’s Just a Song
I hate to admit that I kinda like the Jamie Foxx T. Pain song “Blame it on the Alcohol” but it’s got some catchy parts to it. I’ve still got that middle-school rap/hip/hop on the radio addiction deep down inside me.
But I wouldn’t put that song on my blog. I saw one parody “Blame it on yo pumps” that I really liked besides it still being a little questionable as far as the respect of women goes.
Instead I’ll share this one. It’s got that great vocoded-voice sound to it, and a nice strong beat, and some funny lyrics. I don’t really know about the end, but I’ll let it be what it is and let you decide if you like it or not.
“Blame it on the Black People”
I had seen the picture (0:24 seconds) of Gee Booooosh and that young kid that looks so disturbed by his touching. Great. Also I want a Caprice. Not really. But someday maybe. Some of this reminded me of an episode of Boondocks I really liked. Anyway, I laughed a lil, but also cried because of the parts of truth behind this song.
“…and Michael Jackson was an outstanding good guy….and totally turned white”? or “until he turned white?” who knows. that was funny.
Oops I just wasted like 40 minutes. I hope this post has some quality to it to have made that worthwhile.
Also sometimes I hate “white people”. But it’s not “white people”. It’s dumb Americans. And often times they are racist, naive, egotistical, and just oh-so-stupid. The people I’m talking about are mostly people that say dumb comments on youtube. It’s always dumb white Americans making stupid comments on youtube.
Whatever, now I’ve definitely ruined this post by switching the topic a lot, and by saying things I haven’t backed up with education and facts.
PEACE!

Women Degrading Type Rap Music is So Beyond Tired
It’s not only tired and unoriginal.
To be positive about some aspect of this- it helps me quickly identify what music is worth listening to or not.
But you have to remember that “b%&$h” may or may not be degrading- it can just be referring to men and women alike that are sucky-humans.
It also all depends on how much you value words, swear words, and the power they have for you. Anything negative or usually almost anything sexually-related is really unappealing to me.
I have different views about swear words, but there is no question about the line I draw when it comes to any quote-on-quote lyricist talking about “gettin’ ass” (or worse) and bitches in relation to women, as well as most relational interactions.
There are plenty of artists I really dig, and I guess I need to put my voice out there in a rebuttlesque way. Like that?- yeah!

mmm…Body, Mind, Soul blog does a reader gooood!
I recently watched about half of a documentary on cancer, food choice, and even how dental health (think mercury in fillings) has majorly been and still is effecting Americans (as well as other humans, but Americans are the piggiest in my opinion). Though I haven’t finished the documentary, (due to getting distressed about my silver fillings, among the other gruesome images contained within), a main point came across again to me loud and clear: that eating healthily is the best thing you can ever do for yourself. And getting holistic and embracing food as your life source.
And, I’ve recently been greatly enjoying my friend’s blog “Body, Mind, Soul” which is by far the most advanced blog I’ve seen of any of my friends (its aim is to share her journey of working to “Be Healthier in Every Aspect of Life” and I think the accomplishments in this blog/in her life are worth noticing). I wouldn’t have imagined someone I used to eat gingerbread men cookies while lying on the floor late at night in college would come up with all that. I think it’s the food she’s eating, and the way she’s taking care of her whole self, that fuel her energetic and creative abilities to lead such an admirable life and to document it so well.
I give her mad props for photographing almost all of her food intake in any given day, and for keeping up with eating so healthily (not to mention she does it with a modest budget in mind, and eats meat here and there (which I’m a big fan of when accompanied by veggies and such)). And I love her point in the “about this blog”: “I try to nourish myself with what I need, be it carrots or carrot cake, hugs and laughter, yoga or aerobics, wine or water. I try to never attach ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in terms of food.” She has a good attitude about food/cooking/shopping for it, and working on caring for her mind and soul seems to be helping her keep a well-rounded integrity and dedication to health.
I’m trying to sound more eloquent than usual, thinking of my recent lack of quality posts. And, my struggles with eating healthily. It’s not really a struggle at all when I get in the habit. I LOVE KALE! I will eat a plate filled with vegetables and some tofu or whole-wheat noodles and feel more than satiated. But it’s the excuses about cooking, shopping, and the time it takes to make food at all
. Not to mention, if I’m eating too much sugar and processed foods, my taste buds forget what quality food is.
In short- check out this blog. It’s got a lot of great information (she’s taking nutrition courses), food ideas with tasty visuals, and touching tidbits from her personal life that inspire you to maybe make some changes of your own. The writer is a gem of a human, and I feel a renewed sense of connection with her based on just a few of the entries in her blog. I’m proud too. Way to go, Laural!

“A cat fight occurs when two people try to adopt the cat role in a relationship”
someone on twitter got that as the number one search result for something unrelated. how do i not know how to work tweeter? i guess if i even took one minute to try and look into it, i’d figure it out.
i’m listening to Gabriel Bryant’s g-town radio show: “Stepping Into Tomorrow”. Based on the amount of instrumental Stones Throw I hear in the background of his program, I assume the “Stepping Into Tomorrow” is a Madlib jazzcat reference.
i so love stones throw. i so love finding a random radio show program that i really enjoy (similar to Fewsh- also a lovely, unique gtown radio program). this guy gabriel talks about issues. here: “Gabriel Bryant is a Brooklyn, NY native now residing in Philadelphia. He works for an educational non-profit providing students in the neighborhood high schools a pathway to and through college. Gabriel is also a community activist, as Co-Director of the Phila. Chapter of Sankofa Community Empowerment.” there you go.
i have accidentally listened to his show before, and i’m inspired. i will listen again. and i was bored, so i was searching for hiphop shows and the like. i might go to a show at the fire in february called “hip hop lives”- check it at the fire’s site- feb. 6th!
be there!
soon i will make some more music. tonight? possible. i’m mad procrastinating. but i could make a crazy song for the kids. i do it all for the kids. well. kind of. i’d do it for myself instead if i could make it on that alone. but in the meantime, i like the kids. most of the time at least.

MF Doom – Dead Bent
I really must get me Operation Doomsday! (need more records mmm yum)
MF Doom - “Dead Bent” from Operation: Doomsday!
Ooh, you’re like the sun
Chasing all of the pain away
When you come around, you bring brighter days
She told me, you’re the perfect one
Me and you forever will be
He told her, I will rock this microphone … always!
I hold the mic, like n#$% hold their girls tight
But I ain’t after her, probably your Acura pearl white
The h#$%^r? Nah, as many times as I done hit it?
To be specific more times than dimes in a briz-nick
When you broke North, I crashed the barbecue like Riddick
At the Garden, true, that’s the god in me, pardon you
Jeepers! I was torn back, the hoe gained access to my beeper
Call back my secretary gatekeeper
Like I ain’t peep her, I said, “Darling you was stupid though
You know the Super Villain … ho!”
I had this style ever since I was a child
I got this other style I ain’t flip in a while, it goes:
Pure scientific intelligence, with one point of relevance
MC’s whose styles need Vellamints
And once the smoke clears, tell ‘em it’s
The Super m@#%^&*($g Villain, n#$% came through raw like the elements
On 99 plus one of them
And with a flow to pull a fraud #$% file from out in front of him
When we with y’all, we had tons of fun
Me and my duns and them
Actual true and living sons of them
Dead planets and God-U’s
Throwing divine rules to come through, we will over charge you’s
Fool, and won’t feel remorse for shit
Except for one time, once I had took my fronts out and lost them shits
Scientific gone berserk like Red Alert
I really wanted to pick up was nerf? for cheddar dirt
The funniest experiments is where I went
Obviously dead bent, and spent every red cent
To rule you, and still drop more jewels than schools do
Or even TV news that’s designed to fool you (who?)
Yeah you, who hear the most grimy suggestions
From brothers with fly names and I.D. questions
That’s a Secret like Victoria teddy sets that’s edible
Them’s not ready yet for the incredible
Team of MC’s who broke off fakes
Who thought they were slaughta proof
Stomping through like North Face waterproof
Tat-tat, at the end of that
After hit the bar where baby girl bartender at
I told her more wine, mingling with no single mentions of
Stay tuned for more spine tingling adventures of …
I’ll give the lyrics a plus for some good word play and humor. I love when mc’s have little children singin along like Nas in “I Can” and such. I love this MF Doom tune. Makes me nostalgic for I don’t even know what.

Curtis Radio Plug- Right Back At You Cuz!
Every Saturday from 4-5pm I look forward to listening to Curtis Radio program with great haste! He broadcasts live from Oakland University’s radio channel- wxou.org and it is always a worthwhile time- a great mix of music and solving life’s mysteries. He has a theme with some metaphysical, spiritual, psychological questions and ponderings, and then plays a bunch of great music.
Today we’re listening to some songs from Thom Yorke’s The Eraser, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ted Strunk, Bron Tennis, Lisa Dewey, and more! His theme today is “Musicstravaganza!” Click on the compilation cd link to check out the album “Let There Be Light” whence originated a lot of today’s music!
He told everyone to come visit my blog, and I’m very honored, but I feel a little bit like an unprepared dinner hostess, but it’s all good. There is fun stuff on this site, and I’m proud. I’ll have anyone who came based on Curtis’ suggestion know that we recently did a hip-hop collab that is set to appear on myspace before Christmas. Guaranteed enjoyment there, so stay tuned!!
Yeah people! I kind of like to plug myself too, and more importantly to plug good music, good people, good online finds, and finally- the Fresh Cut Salads. If you’re near the Philly area come see a show. If you’re near Oakland University in Michigan? Check out their websites!
You might also like to check out Reade McCardell’s radio show “Fewsh” on Monday’s from 6-8pm from gtownradio.com – the sound from Germantown. Reade is a singer and guitarist from the Fresh Cut Salads and he has the most delicious and delightful taste in music ever- and is constantly introducing me to new music I like.
Back to listening to Curtis’ show. But peace and love to you all!

Yo Gabba Gabba – There’s a Party in my Tummy
Yo Gabba Gabba is the best thing ever. The song and video “There’s a Party in my Tummy” is even better.
Watch it a hundred times for better understanding of the world, and yourself.
