Review: Fresh Cut Salads “Vitamin Sea”

Fresh Cut Salads

“Vitamin Sea” (2006)
___________

This album is Genius- goes down well with a glass of Guiness.

Intro- a delightful trip up and down the linings of your inner esophagus, with a little bit of suspense

Importance of Gradients- what are those sounds? tiny keyboard, surprise me with your sounds from outer space, and hold me closer. the powerful vocal section crescendoes into a mighty woh that makes you feel like you can really do anything, except for making music that would sound like the fresh cut salads

I Can’t Stop This Feeling- i love the way the vibraphone pulsates happiness into my surroundings and in a way, this song reminds me of the Beach Boys, only more modern and reaches out to the youth to stroke their hair more softly, even the mohawks and mullets.

Self Deprecationists- a cheery, sing-along type ditty about my life and many of the lives of people close to me. i just never knew how to put it in such a way that everyone would want to whistle and cheer with it too. i also noticed that they’re the type of people who have to get that last word in in an argument.

If You Don’t- i would never say a song on this album was my favorite (because they’re all perfect in their own lil way) but this one is delectably fit. with an almost eery beginning and a starkly contrasted bang of bop to top, the cowbell and swanky bass take me sailing swiftly through this tasty adventure of a tale of curtains, being naked, and rage. silky.

W.A.I.T.O.P.W.G.C.S.M.T.I.W.T.C.U.A.D.- powerful, full of force, almighty, persuasive, enlivening, enlightening, strengthy, endowed, likable, savvy, hearty, poignant, colossal, highly relatable- who doesn’t feel this way?!!?!!? and damned if that title isn’t clever! this one really weaves a nesty (comforting) web in my heart strings.

A Bunch of Eyes- did i say the other one was my favorite? you can’t even give this song any genre classification it’s so incomparably unique. i want to know what this man is talking about and at the same time i don’t even care. the magical mystery tour bus has nothing on this trip through the intergalactic milky spacial way!!!

Barracuda!- as an avid linguist, i can genuinely appreciate their lack of any correlation between the lyrics to this song and the spanish language. but it reminds me of going to spain or mexico, allows me to fantasize about visiting a place like acapulco or costa rica, and generally just makes me laugh. especially because it would really hurt to use a barracuda as a means of transportation.

Dysgitimate Child- oh my goodness! who is this fine lady singing with such a sultry voice! this song goes from soothing to smoldering in no time. and it does NOT stop there!

Propped Up- remember when you learned the 5 W’s in school? Well- who, what, where, why, when, and w(h)ow! this song could literally knock a person out. we may never know how they did it. probably not.

Important Sandwich- another greaty but oldy, somewhat Beatle-esque, this one can really get to you. reminds you of the good times, the old times, the new times, the new york times on a saturday morning with some coffee and promises of snuggles. a tear in your eye?

Up the Trunk of a Wisdom Tree- short and tall this one is, climactic, exalting, over so soon, but so fulfilling along the way.

Man- boo! this song’ll just smack you right upside the head with no bars held up. a true gem on the album- punk rock and heavy metal like- affable and laughable! i mean, cranberry man, trodden feet?!??!?!

Dream Song- hearty, wholesome, a sexy little love song that makes you pee your pants a little. from all the excitement that is. vibrant. makes you hold your breath. you don’t know what’s going to happen, but you’re falling in love all the way, chuckle, chuckle!

the tin angel saw five angels last night

those fresh cut salads shone brightly like a 400 watt metal halide lightbulb last night at their SOLD OUT show at the Tin Angel.
the sheer power of the beauty of the glory of the magnificence of the magnet fences and the, yeah, you know exactly what i’m talking about. right?!?!

jesse's show picture (je-jo made that pic from flick)

HOWEVER! if you were not at the show, nor had you even been to a show?!? you would know nothing of it.

now buy their cd. now. i mean it. you know what i’m sayin sayin talkin bouty?

their show was so entirely everything good you could possibly think of to put here. yessuh many compliments time. they surprised me, a loyal and even intercepting follower, by baffoozling me into realizing that they were actually something better than any of us could have ever put together from all of our fantasies about how good they could be. they took what they had and flaunted it like a deliciously cute little puppy with a giraffe halloween costume walking/running a race for a cause, that can barely finish because it has so many precious things to do along the way.

and now there is nothing more flattering i could say.

Fresh Cut Salads

What a tasty little name, right? Seriously though, this band is amazing. They combine the mental capacity of apes with musical evolution; they create revolutions with unintrusive intrusions to wake you up to the smell of home-cooked carrots. This 5-member band brings together creative collections of notes, instruments, and lyrics to tickle right all up in your eustachian tubes (and don’t let them lay a bed of spinach down in your semicircular canals). Really people, let’s get some testimonies going! They’re music is tasty as grilled right-from-the-vine squash in the summertime of a stirfy. Their personalities are eclectic and enigmatic as some have said and for more info (including an A-to-Z describatory guide), go to the fresh cut salads forum page. Anyway I’m bored of writing about these fabulous people because the complexities of their lives and genius (musical or otherwise) is too much to fathom and it kind of hurts my head. So I lied- I’m not actually bored of it, I just kind of want to go take a nap.

1st day back in BA

I finally got manic again after many weeks of a lack thereof. The BA-town will do that to you. I came into this thing with a head on straight and a wave and a smile or two for all my new friends. I also almost straight chipped my tooth on the car door. M-dog cut off a whole lot of his hair, it’s almost bear. I even went to the old hangout Always Cafe and drank limeade like the good old days this summer when I don’t know if I was crazier or not crazier. Then we went down to the P-pack and frolicked about with some old lollygaggers for a while and later played at the playground like a pack of wild 10 year olds and to finish the evening we played a few rousing games of Twister before people started falling asleep on the board. I can already tell it’s going to be a wonderful life ah ha ha haaaaaaaaa. This is both the land of the holy and the cheese steak after all (not to mention the only place I know of that has a ‘veggie patty’ at Subway). I cannot tell a lie though, I do miss my family and cats and reality TV shows already, but such is life or la vie as the French would call it.
