I watched Scratch this weekend and found it delightful and inspiring.
And, boom- thanks to youtube, it’s out there in full. I enjoyed watching it in higher quality with my sound system though.
I think I just spent well over an hour looking up DJ basics and courses and lessons. I guess teaching myself is the best bet for now. I was thinking that signing up for a course would be good because it’d force me to practice. The best one I found was in New York: Scratch DJ Academy which looks like a high-quality course with lots of amazing DJs as professors.
First thing’s first, I need to save up and buy my other turntable. Which I will be doing. Very soon. And I’ll continue to make time to play around with what I have!
I like how in the documentary one guy says you have to live and love it to be good- he’d DJ for 6 or 7 hours and go home and play for 6 or 7 more.
The documentary is definitely worth watching if you’re interested in the art of scratching and where it came from. I need to get my record groove on!
