In one Erykah Badu’s collab songs with Madlib called “The Healer” she calls out many of the different names of God:
“Humdi Lila Allah Jehova
Yahweh Dios Ma’ad Jah”
You may or may not have gotten that these are all different names of The One, The Almighty, The Gracious Lord, Our Heavenly Spirit….God.
I looked up most of these, but I’m unsure still about a few. Voila:
Humdi lilla- not quite sure but I read that “al Hamdi lullah” means “Thanks be to God”,
lilla is like Allah- Humdi Lila might be similar to the Muslim greeting: “Asalaam alaikum”
Allah is the standard Arabic word for God
Jehovah is the English reading and pronunciation of the Hebrew name for God
Yahweh is also an English version of a Hebrew name for God
Dios is Spanish for God
Ma’ad is probably the Egyptian goddess Maat or Mayet who represents “the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth, order—law, morality, and justice” (from wikipedia)
Jah is a name commonly used for God by Rastafarians (also derived from the Hebrew)
It goes on to talk about music and hip-hop and Badu talks about how it’s bigger than a lot of things. I think she is relating hip-hop to God and making a commentary on organized religion. But I don’t want to get into the politics of interpretation, thank you.
I had an interview today- more like a pre-interview, it requires a second part tomorrow (which I have decided not to go to because I don’t want to be a hostess), but I was worried that I didn’t “do that well” during the interview. I did a good job with some of their random questions: “name a brand of vodka (I chose Absolut over Grey Goose), answered “what color is Cabernet Sauvignon” at first with white (doubting myself heavily) and then remember a few minutes later that duh- it’s red. I gave myself 5 out of 10 for wine knowledge, but that’s modest. I did live in France. Anyway, I did alright, but they have all of these tests, and I did just want to be making money right away, which it looks like I might not be for a while.
At least I didn’t do bad like Eli does in this video, poor kid. He really freezes for a moment….
Worst (or maybe….best?!?!) Rap Battle Ever
I can totally relate. Whether I’m freestyling, or like in the interview today when I didn’t remember whether C.S. was red or white, I have my moments where I get scared and my brain becomes foggy.
But I’m the best man, I stay on top, I’m never gonna flop, I got you roasted like ever, my rhymes are cleva, I’m the best man- you need to the f&%^in dental! Oh!!!
Sometimes my tendency towards rhyming makes it hard for me to think freely. I need to get on the Miss Rap Supreme show pretty fast. Because we all know I can frizzle stizzle, and I’ve just been waitin to get the ghetto out of me now that I’m done school. Sure, maybe I’m supposed to be a sweet role model for the children, the future, I hope to teach, but maybe achieving this odd dream of mine is something worthwhile, something silly enough to give both myself and the children a laugh or two.
So odd of me to have a blog where I want to share both everything about myself and nothing personal. I keep it true to a fine-tune and I think that shows through it all, and now I’ll give you something interesting to reflect on:
My favorite part of the short article is most of it:
“The lucky man is Henry Hager, a stand-up guy who, in honor of his country and his new father-in-law’s top priority, will go to fight in Iraq immediately after the wedding.
Just kidding. He’s finishing his MBA. But, no doubt, he’ll be supporting the troops in his own way, perhaps on the crucial investment banking front. ”
Aww. Gotta love that. Just gotta love the top-down support system the country has in place.
Sick concert. I had such a good time my camera ran out of battery before I got to tape my favorite new Kids in the Hall collab song “Driven Down the Block” but I certainly danced to it a lot.
Here’s a sweet video I got right when we got there of Busdriver’s “Pompous Posie’s” with Antimc’s sick beatmakin:
I was a lil bit tippin to the tips, so halfway through I try and get a shot of Rizzle and I dancing, to no avail (I did done shoulda know better!)
Here’s a picture of probably Dizzee Rascal from behind, but no one can be sure:
More videos to come. More other stuff too. Stay tuned. Stay in tune.
1) I’m not in PA right now. I went to my best friend’s wedding in Chicago and had the time of my life. Now I’m at home visiting the fam with the cute nieces.
2) Best friend wedding was the best time ever! Here’s a picture to prove it:
3) I need a lot of jobs. Looking good is not enough of a job. At least until I’m a model and get paid for it:
4) There is a cute cute wild kittencat that my mother befriended. It is too cute and weird how it loves her so much, but it so afraid of me. Here they are:
I’m nervous sometimes. But not when I look at this cat…can you see it?!:
